Crew Details

Crew Staff PicCrew offers opportunities to engage in service, build strong interpersonal relationships, and gain valuable behind-the-scenes knowledge of the details of camping ministry.  In addition to American Red Cross Lifeguard certification, Crew members will be trained in a variety of special skills, from basic Challenge Course Certification, to setting up sound systems, and helping to run the camp store.  Crew members will have practical experience in participating in the “nuts and bolts” activities of a complex ministry and staff.  Also, each Crew member will get to live in a cabin so that they can have an opportunity to build relationships with the campers as they learn from the counselors.  Daily debriefing and feedback will allow members to hone skills and grow personally.  All the while, the Crew will grow in their faith while living out the mission of Camp Glisson...growing disciples!

Lifeguard Certification

Crew members serve as the lifeguards for summer camp.  Lifeguarding is a job requirement of Crew members.  All Crew members are required to be American Red Cross lifeguard certified prior to reporting to camp for their respective session.  American Red Cross lifeguard certifications can be earned at a variety of locations across the state. Classes have a variety of names, but approved classes should include CPR/First Aid and Lifeguarding skills. If you are still having trouble locating a class near you or are unsure if you are signing up for the correct class, please feel free to contact Kim Bell for additional assistance at 706-864-6181.  When lifeguard certification is obtained, a copy should be sent to Glisson Camp and Retreat Center for our records. If it is not mailed prior to check-in, it MUST be delivered when you arrive to camp. American Red Cross lifeguard certifications are good for three years, and can be used to gain employment outside of the five weeks Crew will be employed by Glisson.
